La Strada dei Pastelli Chalk Art Festival, happening August 10-11 at Cedar Hills Crossing will feature fifteen nationally-recognized chalk artists, including Sharyn Chan and Jennifer Ripassa. Professional chalk artists from around the county have 48 hours to complete large-scale images; most averaging 10’x10’. The process starts just as one would imagine- with a line drawing. As each hour passes the array of red, yellow, blue, and green hues begin to blend into semi-recognizable features. The drawings really start to take shape by mid-day Saturday. Returning Sunday morning, the artists utilize the entirety of the day to refine colors, shading, and realism. By 6:00pm Sunday the one-of-a-kind image is complete.
These drawings are not meant to be purchased and carried away. They are entirely ephemeral; made of chalk pastels drawn directly on the asphalt. In honor of the 500-year old tradition of Italian street painting, they are an immersive experience into the creative process. Attendees are encouraged to vote in the People’s Choice Ballot. Prizes will be awarded at 5:00pm Sunday.
The Festival will also feature an itinerary of live performances by groups like Portland Opera A La Cart and Beaverton Community Band. Local art vendors will be showcasing multimedia works from paintings to woodworking. Ample family activities are being provided by organizations, including Craft Warehouse, Beaverton Art Foundation, and Five Oaks Triple Creek NAC. La Strada dei Pastelli is free and open to the public. Visit www.2D4D.org

2D4D works to strengthen the region’s creative impact by helping artists and arts-leaders in the 2-dimensional and 4-dimensional (time-based) fields achieve greater potentials both individually and collectively. 2D4D does this by providing free and low-cost classes, workshops, networking events, exhibition and performance opportunities each designed to expose the value, function, and necessity for social diversity and dialog. This is only possible by bridging interaction between the arts and non-arts communities to recognize that each supports the other. www.2d4d.org
