(Hillsboro, Ore.) – On Tuesday, August 6, from 5-8 p.m., the Walters Cultural Arts Center will host a reception during First Tuesday Art Walk for “Take Flight,” an exhibition featuring local artists Cindy Geffel, Lieta Gratteri, and Michael Loen. Your imagination will soar as you experience the bright, celebratory worlds of these three artists, whose works in acrylic, watercolor, oil, and collage uplift the spirit.
From 5-6:30 p.m., enjoy music in the Walters lobby with local guitarist Trent Toney, whose fun, upbeat songs provide inspiration for children of all ages, or craft colorful and whimsical clothespin dragonflies at our family art-making station. At 5:30 p.m., join Michael Loen for an artist walk-and-talk, followed by a walk-and-talk with Cindy Geffel at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided thanks to our supporting sponsor, Decadent Creations.
Bringing explorations of color, nature, movement, and wonder to the Walters, “Take Flight” gathers together the talents of Cindy Geffel, Lieta Gratteri, and Michael Loen for colorful flights of the imagination. Inspired by “the daily flights and behavior of the local bird population,” the art of Cindy Geffel creates “a mash up of two experiences,” diving into both movement and memoir with playful, kaleidoscopic introspection and observation. Also drawing her inspiration from the magic of birds, Lieta Gratteri, whose artistic career began with a watercolor workshop at the Walters Cultural Arts Center, has since flown full circle, showing her evolution as an artist through a range of warm, contemplative, nature-inspired works. And Michael Loen, who describes his paintings as “colorful, decorative abstracts employing collage elements,” creates bold, thought-provoking landscapes using elements of history, humor, and nostalgia – with a keen eye on the future.
