Plein Air artist creates gallery at Edge Coffee, invites others to join
Karen Doyle is the Artist in Residence at Edge Coffee on Millikan Way in Beaverton. In December she brought additional Alla Prima Portland artists into the coffee shop gallery. Ben Jones and Brenda Enyert, manager and owner of Edge Coffee, love having the local artwork adorn their walls and the customers enjoy looking at the paintings, all of which are for sale. Doyle and Edge owners get a lot of pleasure from helping others grow their art careers.
The new show launched during the second week of March and features Karen along with two other artists Kristina Sellers and Joanne Radmilovich Kollman, who are members of Alla Prima Portland.
Karen Doyle is showing small landscape paintings. She paints in an impressionist style, both outside en plein air and indoors in her home studio. “Since 2016, I have traveled with my oil paints and painted in Oregon, Arizona, Hawaii and southern and central California. My paintings at Edge this spring are from trips to Maui and San Diego as well as our local Tualatin Wildlife Refuge, and depictions of flowers from Al’s Garden Center of Sherwood, Oregon. I enjoy depicting aspects of my everyday life – it creates a more lasting memory and every time I look at one of these paintings, I can vividly recall the experience of being there” says Doyle. https://karendoylefineart.
Joanne Radmilovich Kollman is showing floral still life paintings. She paints alla prima in oil year round. “I am inspired by my local surroundings. Spring through Fall I paint outdoors with friends and in local juried landscape competitions as often as I can. I teach Expressive Oil Painting with fresh flowers on Saturdays at Oregon Society of artists as well as a clothed model session every Friday.” She has received numerous grants and awards including a Regional Arts and Cultural Council Artistic Focus project Grant depicting people she viewed in her local neighborhoods. Her florals and landscapes are distributed nationally to galleries. www.radmilovichkollman.com
Kristina Sellers is showing landscape and figurative paintings. “An art juror once said to me ‘Your paintings are about light’. She was so right, and it thrilled me that the message was received. My passion for chasing the light, it’s effects and the feelings evoked continues to this day. My plein air work is challenging, but it is constantly informing me in ways I can use in my studio paintings. In recent years, I developed my skills with palette knife painting.” Kristina is an award winning impressionist painter. She resides in the Portland, Oregon area with her husband, calico and two dogs. http://kristinasgallery.
Alla Prima Portland is a collective of artists who meet on a weekly basis in Multnomah Village. “Alla Prima” translates to “all-at-once” and though not a requirement. Many of the Alla Prima Portland artists paint directly in real-time in the tradition of the French Impressionists. Celeste Bergin is moderator for the group that started in 2012. Weekly discussions include art fundamentals, inspirations, work-in-progress and the art business. You can learn more at https://allaprimaportland.
