Mask & Mirror Community Theatre closes its 8th season with David Lindsay-Abaire’s Rabbit Hole, a gripping drama about a family’s attempt to survive the tragedy of the accidental death of a small child. The show plays in the intimate theatre space of The Tualatin Heritage Center from July 12 to July 21, Fri & Sat at 7:30, Sun at 2:30. All tickets are an affordable $10 and are available online at www.MaskandMirror.com/Rabbit-
The play is Directed by Joseph Silva, local writer, director producer, and actor, last seen at Mask & Mirror as Director of A Trip to Bountiful. “Rabbit Hole could be a difficult story to watch,” says Joe. “But my vision for the show has always been different. I’ve never considered it to be about a lost child. If that’s where we dwell, there isn’t much to say. To me it is first and foremost the story of a marriage. And a family. I see good people lost in an awful situation and doing their best – their imperfect best – to work it through. I see humor and love and doubt and complex relationships. I am reminded that the most important thing about a death is not the loved one lost. It is tending to those who remain.”
Rabbit Hole premiered on Broadway in 2006 and won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for drama. It was also nominated for five 2006 Tony awards, with Cynthia Nixon winning the 2006 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her performance as Becca. A 2010 movie adaptation starred Nicole Kidman.
Mask & Mirror UnMasked productions are intended to present unique plays of merit not usually produced by all-volunteer, non-profit community theatre; especially plays that are edgy: having a bold, provocative, or unconventional quality. They are made possible in part by a grant from the Cultural Coalition of Washington County and the Oregon Cultural Trust.
Mask & Mirror Community Theatre is now ending its 8th season of presenting high quality and affordable live theatre to the citizens of Tigard and Tualatin – using all-volunteer actors, stage crew and administrators.
