It’s not the first time Donna Sanson has opened a gallery, but it’s the first time in almost ten years. Donna recently invited twenty of her artist friends to join in her new venture which officially opens on Friday, October 4 – “First Friday” in Multnomah Village.
The gallery is an extension of her art studio in Suite #1, in a building at the corner of SW 40th Avenue and Multnomah Boulevard, directly across from the post office and with a recently added mid-century modern art mural at its entrance. Eight local artists occupy five working studios within the building at 7830 SW 40th; four of the eight will exhibit work within the new gallery along with Sanson and sixteen other artists, including three from out of state.
“It’s a joy to bring this group of professional artists together under one roof – not only are they friends of mine but I greatly admire their imagination, skill, and sensitivity to the world around them – I think their art is divine. From felted wool hats and wearable art to award-winning art quilts; from sophisticated jewelry and bold and exciting sculptures to delicate mobiles, elegant glass, and embossed metals; from fine and functional ceramics to paintings done with acrylic, encaustic, gouache, ink, oil, pastel, or watercolor – I am so proud to bring together this exceptional collection of fine art. It’s a dream come true for me.”
In her seventies, Donna advises folks to take the advice of Mark Twain, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”
Hours for the gallery will be limited to Fridays from 11 am to 8 pm and Saturdays from 11 am to 6 pm or by appointment. Parking is available onsite and there is no fee to visit the gallery and view the artwork.
