(Hillsboro, Ore.) — On Tuesday, December 4, from 5 – 8 p.m., the Walters Cultural Arts Center (527 E. Main St., Hillsboro) will host an opening reception for the exhibition, “P.A.N. Portfolio,” featuring work from artists representing Print Arts Northwest (PAN). Founded in 1980, PAN is an educational nonprofit organization based in Portland, Ore. that supports and promotes contemporary fine art printmaking. PAN advocates the art of printmaking through exhibitions, professional development, and educational programs that promote the creation, appreciation, and collection of original artists’ prints by professional and emerging printmakers.
“P.A.N. Portfolio,” on view December 4 – January 25, exemplifies the astonishing range of creative inventiveness among Pacific Northwest printmaking artists. The exhibition brings the work of 42 artist-members of PAN together into a single cohesive collection. The visual themes, color, form, line, and shape transcend similarities and differences across a variety of printmaking methods. The collection is reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest itself: dramatically diverse in geography and culture and yet an indivisible whole.
Other December 4 Art Walk activities at the Walters include: classical guitar and violin from Katherine Rhee; “Secrets of Printmaking: A Panel Discussion with Print Arts Northwest” at 6 p.m.; hands-on activities crafting sparkly winter snowflakes and decorated picture frames; and an expanded, one-night-only Artisan Pop-up Shop in the Walters Theatre, featuring over 25 local artists and artisans selling their work. All proceeds from Pop-up Shop sales go directly to the artists. Light refreshments will be provided thanks to our supporting sponsor, Decadent Creations.
The First Tuesday Art Walk is free, open to the public, and takes place on the first Tuesday of every month throughout Downtown Hillsboro from 5 – 8 p.m. Exhibitions at the Walters Cultural Arts Center are open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Walters is located at 527 E.
