July featured artists are Victoria Shepard and Gayle Pedemonte. Come meet the artists at the First Tuesday Opening Reception on July 2 from 5-8pm.
Victoria Lee Shepard has been painting in the medium of oil for years. Most recently she has added sand as a medium which brings her the experience of creating something more abstract. At the beach alongside the water, she begins the motion of splashing, tossing, pouring, dripping sand and water onto the canvas. The next day the design is set enough to add acrylic color. Victoria has been a part of Hillsboro since she was a child and is a founding member of Sequoia Gallery + Studios.
Gayle Pedemonte is showing a group of paintings inspired by a trip she took last fall to Santa Fe, NM. She, her sister, and her sister-in-law found the colors there to be dramatically different from Oregon and Gayle captured those memories and that feeling of place in her oil paintings. She says, “it was fun to come home and preserve the experience by mixing some different colors, warmer colors, beyond the cool greens we frequently use here.” By working in a different palate and using the vacation photos, rocks, and plant cuttings she brought as reference, she can recapture the light, smells and re-experience the travel she enjoyed. Gayle has been a member of Sequoia for several years, and has a studio space upstairs.
Join us on First Tuesday, July 2nd from 5-8pm in historic downtown Hillsboro for our Featured Artist opening reception to meet the artists.
